Weather: Cool and wet conditions have replaced the hot and dry weather that predominated the past few months. Rain is forecasted for the next four days with moderate temperatures.
Corn: Early planted corn in Darke County has reached black layer and will continue to dry down until harvest. Very few fields around the county have been shelled. Corn that suffered hot dry conditions for a good portion of the summer began to lodge over the last few weeks. Small areas of less than an acre have fallen over.
Soybeans: As fall progresses soybeans continue to lose leaves and dry down. At most 1 to 5 % of fields have reached full maturity (R8). Most soybeans fall between R6 and R7.
There are no reports of wheat planting at this time.
Marestail continues to set and disperse seed. Marestail management next year will be a must!
